Men's Tennis 4/17/2004 7:46:00 AM Southern Conference SoCon Men's Tennis Results, Friday, April 16 Appalachian State 5, Elon 2ELON, N.C. -- After sweeping all three doubles matches to claim that point, the Elon men's tennis squad proceeded to drop five of the six singles matches to fall 5-2 to visiting Appalachian State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Phoenix, who rode a three match winning streak into the day, now owns an 8-7 overall ledger and a 4-5 Southern Conference mark, while The Mountaineers now stand at 9-13, 4-5. Elon's teams of Pramote Malasitt/Eric Haase (8-6 over Alex Probst/Ben Shuster) , Justin Roberson/Austin Fenn (9-8 over Jason Nius/Andrew Waters) and Thomas Rohof/Alex Thomson (8-6 over Dimitar Dimitrov/Andrew Taylor) each earned victories in doubles action to start the match. In singles competition, the Mountaineers claimed victories at all but the number five position. Probst defeated Malasitt 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 at number one, Dimitrov polished off Haase 6-4, 6-3 at number two and Shuster won 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at number three. Waters downed Roberson 6-3, 6-1 at number four and Taylor claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number six for Appalachian State. Elon's lone singles win came at number five as Fenn dropped Nius 6-1, 7-6 (11-9).
