Citadel Athletes Claim Four Gold Medals

Columbia, SC - Four men on The Citadel's track and field team seized first-place finishes to help the Bulldogs capture second-place at the South Carolina State Championships.

Senior Alex Prince ran a season-best in the 400 meters as he clenched the gold medal with a time of 47.81. Prince was also anchored the winning 4x400 relay team (3:18.89).

"Both teams (men and women) did an excellent job and being able to finish second in the team scoring for both the men and women was very exciting," remarked head coach Jody Huddleston. "We had some very good performances and I think they are getting excited knowing that all their hard work is beginning to pay dividends."

Senior Marcus Butler finished eighth in the 400 meters. Sophomore Thomas Cummings won the 400 intermediate hurdles in a personal best time of 54.39. Freshman Thomas Pressley finished third in the 100 meters (10.96) and third in the 200 meters. Freshman Charles Kutz ran a competitive race to finish second in the 800 meters in 2:00.83. Freshman Will Wilson ran his first 1500 meter race and surprised the coaching staff as he captured the blue ribbon. Wilson crossed the finish line seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field.


The 4x100 relay of Thomas Pressley, Marcus Cohen, Quintin Wright and Cameron Easley finished third with a season best time of 42.10.

In the field, Zach DiBois upped his own freshman record in the hammer as he finished fifth with a throw of 121-9. Senior Travis Taylor finished second in the high jump (6-00.75) and javelin with a season-best toss of 176-4. Senior Chris Petty also had a second place finish in the shot and Alex Croskey had a personal best throw of 129-4 in the discus to place fifth.

The men and the women will return to action at Georgia this Saturday, April 10 for the Spec Town Relays. Events are scheduled to commence at 8 AM.

Skinner Takes Fourth At Spec Towns Invitaional

Athens, GA - Sophomore Martha Skinner hurled the javelin 33.50m to seize fourth-place at the 27th Annual Spec Towns Invitational. The Citadel traveled to Georgia and joined some of the nation's best hurlers on Georgia's track.

Sophomore Miriam Crawford (26.33) and senior Rose Rodriguez (27.46) found the 17th and 27th sports in the 200m dash, respectively. In the field, freshman Stephanie McNeill tossed the shot put 11.62m to earn the 12th spot, while classmate Christen Cox secured 10th with a throw of 29.79m.

The Citadel will compete at the Elon Invitational, April 17. Events are slated to begin at 8 AM.

Killian Takes Fifth at the Spec Town Invitational

Athens, GA - Senior Robert Killian captured fifth-place in the 3000m steeplechase at the 27th Annual Spec Towns Invitational. The Citadel traveled to Georgia and joined some of the nation's best hurlers on Georgia's track.

Killian completed the steeplechase in 9:36.74. Freshmen Quintin Wright and Thomas Pressley secured the fifth and sixth spots in the 100m with times of 10.97 and 10.98, respectively. In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Thomas Cummings took sixth-place with a time of 54.35.

In the shot put, The Citadel men preformed well as they took sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth-place. Sophomore Chris Petty hurled the shot a distance of 13.06m for sixth-place, while senior Travis Taylor's 13.05m toss earned the seventh spot. Junior Erick Austin's throw of 12.41m, and freshman Alex Croskey's, pitch of 12.25m secured the eighth and ninth slots, respectively.

The Citadel will compete at the Elon Invitational, April 17. Events are slated to begin at 8 AM.
