Relay Record Broken In Savannah

Savannah, GA - The freshman 4x100 relay team re-wrote Citadel track and field history as the track and field team kicked-off the outdoor season at the Savannah State Eye Opener.

"I am pleased with the results," remarked head coach Jody Huddleston. "It was a great meet for us."

The freshman 4x100 relay team composed of Quintin Wright, Curtis Dayson, Cameron Easley and Thomas Pressley ran a 42.87 and broke the original record of 43.25 set in 2000.

"This is very exciting to see," Huddleston commented. "Especially since Jeff (Witherspoon) and J.T. (Marbury) of the 2000 squad went on to be members of the school record holding 4x100 team (40.79)."

The freshman continued to make an impact as Matt Holmes ran a strong 5,000-meter race placing second. Charles Kutz placed fourth in the 1500-meters, Wright took fourth in the 200-meters and Thomas Pressley found the fifth spot in the 100-meters. Junior Rick Austin secured second in the javelin as he tossed the lance 138-10, while senior Chris Franklin found the fifth slot in the shot put with a 42-00.25 launch.

The Citadel men return to the track, March 13 as they make a short trip to Conway, SC to participate in the Coastal Carolina Eye Opener. The first event is scheduled to being at 9 AM.
