DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's tennis team played host to the Elon Phoenix due to the rainy conditions, but the Phoenix performed like they were on their home courts, pulling out close wins to take a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats. The 'Cats, who were riding a two-match winning streak into today's competition, fall to 8-6 overall and 1-4 in the Southern Conference. Elon improves to 4-4 this season and 2-2 in league play.

Elon started the day on a high note, taking all three doubles matches from the Wildcats to earn the first point of the competition at the Knobloch Tennis Center. The Wildcat suffered another blow when junior Donald Miles (#2) was forced to take an injury default early in his singles match. Elon's Justin Roberson (#4) put the Phoenix up 3-0 with a three-set victory over senior Jonathan Britt. Senior Rob Haywood (#1) and Pramote Malasitt displayed one of the closest matches of the afternoon, but Elon clinched the match with Malasitt's 7-5, 7-6 victory.

The Wildcats would get a strong three-set win from senior Bryan Stonestreet, who fought back from a set down, to take a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Thomas Rohof. Freshman Porus Jetli (#6) improved to 7-5 with his 6-2, 6-2 victory against Mike Prelec.

Davidson remains at home to challenge Georgia Southern on Friday, April 2. The match at Covington Courts is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The UNC Wilmington men's tennis team blanked UNC Greensboro, 7-0, while the women defeated the Spartans, 4-2, Tuesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex. The No. 2 doubles team of senior Scott Curry and freshman Grant Holland, left, celebrate after clinching the doubles point for the Seahawks. The men improved to 8-5 on the season, while the women hiked their mark to 9-7 with the sweep. Coach Jenny Garrity's team heads to Harrisonburg, Va., Friday to compete in their first CAA match against Towson, while the men play at UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.
