College of Charleston 4, Wofford 3

The Wofford men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, to
visiting College of Charleston Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis
Center. The deciding factor in the match was the doubles point, which
the Cougars won to maintain their Southern Conference leading 11-5
record, including a perfect 6-0 in the league.

The Terriers were victorious in one of three doubles matches
picking up a win at the No. 1 seed. Kent Ball and Brett Johnson knocked
off CofC's top duo of Arthur Peller and Timo Siebert, 8-5.

In singles action, Wofford split the six matches with
Charleston. Johnson garnered a 7-6, 6-4 decision over Bastian Moldehnke
at the No. 3 slot. Brandon Smith added to his team-leading win total
with a three-set, 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 triumph over Philipp Koller at the No. 5
position. The Terriers also earned a win at the No. 6 seed as Jason
Mengel defeated Liran Kling, 7-5, 7-6.

With the loss, Wofford drops to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in the
SoCon.

The Terriers will next be in action Wednesday, March 31, at
Winthrop. The match will be a make-up from a rain out earlier this
season.

Davidson 4, Chattanooga 3

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Junior Russ Burns pulled out a critical three-set win at number five singles to help lift the Davidson men's tennis team to a slim 4-3 victory over visiting Chattanooga Friday afternoon at the Covington Outdoor Courts. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the Southern Conference while the Mocs fall to 5-11 and 1-6.

Davidson captured the doubles point with convincing wins at all three positions. Senior Rob Haywood and junior Donald Miles had the most decisive victory, an 8-3 triumph in the number one contest.

The Mocs then took two of the first three singles matches completed to level the team score at 2-all. John Hangstefer (#1) and Tim Kutschera (#6) each earned straight set victories for UTC while Miles (#2) pulled out a 6-2, 6-4 triumph for the 'Cats.

Senior Jonathan Britt (#4) put Davidson back on top, 3-2, after he finished off Chattanooga's Arturo Navarro, 7-5, 6-3. Thanks to Thomas Knizat's 6-3, 7-5 triumph at number three singles, UTC evened the score at 3-all. That result left the match hinging on the outcome of the number five contest.

Burns (#5) easily won the first set, only to see UTC's Mark Fynn return the favor in the second. Things didn't look good for Davidson after Fynn broke Burns' serve to go in front in the third set,
4-3. However, Burns reeled off the final three games to earn the 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win and hand Davidson its first conference victory of the season.

The Wildcats are right back in action tomorrow, March 27, when the Wildcats host S.C. State at 1:30 p.m. Chattanooga travels to UNC Greensboro tomorrow to take on the Spartans at 12 p.m.
