Wildcats Compete at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Davidson track and field team was one of many squads competing at the Charlotte 49er Classic this weekend. The two-day event was hosted by Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex.

On the men's side, senior Greg Scott paced the Wildcats in both the 1,500 meter and 800 meter events. His time of 3:56.78 in the 1,500 meter competition was good enough for a fifth-place finish. Meanwhile, sophomore Jonathan Baker recorded a Davidson top-10 performance time in the 5,000 meters. He placed fifth out of 45 competitors with a time of 15:03.60. Senior Ben Gaspar finished close behind in eighth place (15:16.22).

In the sprint events, senior Andrew Pratt notched Davidson's top times in the 100 and 200 meters.

For the women, junior Ashley Griffith and sophomore Allie Martin each competed in two mid-distance events. Martin brought home Davidson's best time in the 1,500 meters (4:52.03) while Griffith was right on her heels at 4:54.86. Sophomore Jamie Glenn and freshman Jessica Chasen ran the sprint events for the 'Cats.

Both the men and women return to action next Saturday, March 27. Davidson will be competing at the Emory Classic and Raleigh Relays.
