Wofford Men's Tennis Opens Home Slate On Saturday

The Wofford men's tennis team will open its 2004 home schedule with a 12
p.m. non-conference match against Coastal Carolina Saturday at the
Reeves Tennis Center.

Leading the charge for the Terriers will be a trio of players who have
garnered 2-0 singles marks to start the campaign. Kent Ball at No. 1,
Brett Johnson at No. 4 and Brandon Smith at No. 5 each picked up
back-to-back wins in the season-opening matches in Florida, Jan. 24-25.
Jason Mengel at No. 6 earned a victory in his lone singles match this
season.

"This year's Coastal Carolina team is young, so it's hard to say how
good they are," said head coach Rod Ray. "We had the opportunity to see
them play in individual tournaments this fall, and we know they are
talented. They always have a well prepared and coached team that fights
hard. It is important for us to focus on ourselves and make sure we are
prepared for a great match. We understand every match will give us the
opportunity to look within and make ourselves better."

The Terriers enter the contest with a 2-0 record, their best start since
moving to the Division I level in 1995-96.
