ELON, NC - Elon University announced the 2004 Phoenix football schedule - its second slate as a member of the Southern Conference - Tuesday afternoon. The 11-game slate consists of six home contests and five road games.
"It's typical of a schedule in the Southern Conference," said first-year Elon coach Paul Hamilton. "We will probably play five teams that will be ranked among the nation's top 25 in the preseason."
The schedule consists of seven Southern Conference battles and four non-conference contests. It also includes three games against opponents that finished ranked among the country's top 25 teams, according to the 2003 Sports Network/CSTV NCAA-IAA poll - No. 3 Wofford, No. 16 North Carolina A&T and No. 24 Georgia Southern.
"We're excited to play the first two games at home," said Hamilton. "We like the fact that we're playing six home games. Anytime that you're playing in your own stadium, it's to your advantage."
