Davidson 7, Gardner-Webb 0

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's tennis team finished out a three-day, three-match swing in impressive fashion with a 7-0 sweep of Gardner-Webb Monday afternoon inside Knobloch Tennis Center. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-1 in the spring season.

Davidson earned the doubles point with victories in all three matches. One break of serve was the difference in the number three contest, but senior Bryan Stonestreet and junior Russ Burns prevailed, 9-7.

The Wildcats went on to take every singles match in straight sets. Senior Rob Haywood took care of Phil Skelton at number one singles, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Donald Miles (#2) and senior Jonathan Britt (#4) won their contests by an identical 6-1, 6-2 count. The closest match of the day was at number three singles where Stonestreet edged Gardner-Webb's Roberto Vasques, 7-5, 7-5.

Davidson returns to action this Saturday, February 7, when the 'Cats host both Queens and Belmont Abbey. The Wildcats will battle Queens at 9 a.m., and then take on Belmont Abbey at 1:30 p.m.
