SoCon Men's Tennis Results, Sunday, February 22

Clemson, SC -- The Clemson Men's Tennis Team defeated UNCG by a score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon as part of the Clemson Spring Classic at Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers will return to action Friday evening to face Tennessee Tech.

Clemson began the match by sweeping the doubles matches. Ryan Young and Goran Sterijovski defeated Pieter Visser and Inlio Moran 8-2 at number one doubles. At flight two doubles, Nathan Thompson and John Boetsch blanked Greg Levy and Marc Ladoceur 8-0. Clemson finished its sweep of the doubles point as Brett Twente and Clement Reix downed Daniel Bustamente and Jason Steirhorn 8-2.


In singles actions, Sterijovski won the number one singles match, defeating Moran 6-3, 6-2. Thompson downed Levy 6-4, 6-2 at the number two position. Boetsch defeated Visser 7-5, 6-3 at flight three singles. At the number five match, Robbye Poole downed Bustamente 6-0, 6-1 in his first singles action of the season. Brett Twente defeated Ian Cencher in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 at number six singles. UNCG's only point of the match came at the number four singles match as Ladocecur defeated Young 7-5, 6-3 breaking Young's nine-match winning streak.

With the win, Clemson improves to 10-2 overall. The Tigers return to action on Friday evening as they play host to Tennessee Tech. The Clemson Spring Classic will continue all weekend at the Sloan Tennis Center.


In their first neutral site match of the season, the Wofford
Terriers recorded a 6-1 loss to Richmond Sunday afternoon in Columbia,
S.C.

Garnering the lone point on the afternoon for Wofford was senior
Kent Ball. Ball handed David Donn a 6-3, 7-6 defeat at the No. 1 singles
slot.

Ball also teamed with Chris Barlow to post an 8-6 victory over
Derek Schwandt and Matt Cabana during the No. 1 doubles match.

Freshman Jeff Muthig saw his first collegiate dual match action
as he faced the Spiders' Matt Stillwagon at the No. 6 singles position.

With the loss, the Terriers drop to 4-3 on the season while
Richmond improves to 2-10.

Wofford will next play at Winthrop Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Rock
Hill, S.C.
