Elon Soccer Signs Pair

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University men's soccer coach Mike Reilly today announced two signees for the 2004 season. Joining the Phoenix program next year will be Alexander Barake (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) and Douglas Boateng (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac Senior).

Barake, a 5-9 midfielder, participated in the 2000 United States National Team Camp and was a member of the Missouri ODP team that same year. He has earned First Team All-State, All-Metro and All-Conference accolades while a member of Mike Guavain's Chaminade program. Barake also participated in the 1999 BRUSA Brazil Soccer Tour. He has helped Chaminade to 2001 and 2002 state titles as well as a 2001 national crown and a second place finish in the state in 2003. Each of the past three seasons Chaminade has been ranked in the top-25 by the NSCAA. Alexander is the son of Abraham and Ana Maria Barake.

Boateng, a 5-9 forward, earned team MVP honors for Melvin Klaugh's Potomac squad in his junior season. That same season, Boateng also was named all-area, all-district and all-region. He was also named honorable mention all-state and Washington Post All-Metro. Boateng has led Potomac in scoring in each of the past two seasons and has also led his club team in scoring. Douglas is the son of Collins Boateng and Beatrice Kodua.
