Wofford 99, Toccoa Falls 44

Adam Sheehan scored a career-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range in Wofford's 99-44 victory over Toccoa Falls tonight in Spartanburg, S.C.

A sophomore from Columbia, S.C., Sheehan surpassed his career scoring total of 12 points entering the game. Sheehan hit all five of his treys in a 3:36 stretch of the second half. He had only two career 3-pointers prior to tonight.

The Terriers (5-2) extended their non-conference home winning streak to 14 games, second-longest in the SoCon.

Wofford scored the opening six points as it led throughout the contest in prepping for Saturday's 7 p.m. SoCon opener at home vs. Appalachian State.

"We did what we needed to do heading into league play," Wofford coach Mike Young said. "We continue to play as a team and be very unselfish.

"We had an opportunity to get better or worse tonight. Due to our experience (the Terriers have five seniors) and maturity, we got better tonight."

Adrien Borders, after scoring a season-high 21 points in Sunday's 85-78 win at Auburn, scored all 18 of his points in 10 first-half minutes as the Terriers built a 49-22 lead at the intermission.

Sam Daniels contributed 14 points and seven rebounds to go with four assists, three of which led to Sheehan 3-pointers. Justin Stephens scored all eight of his points in a 56-second stretch. He also recorded a team-best five steals.

After shooting a season-high 53.6 percent in the victory at Auburn, Wofford topped that mark with a 55.4 effort tonight.

Toccoa Falls (6-5), which shot just 30.2 percent, was led by Jason Shaffer's 13 points. Tommy Penland added 10 points.

Howard Wilkerson and Tyler Berg topped Wofford with eight rebounds as the Terriers held a 49-28 edge on the boards.

Charlotte 87, Davidson 68

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) - Brendan Plavich hit seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points - all in the final 11 minutes - to help Charlotte rally to an 87-68 win over Davidson on Wednesday.

Plavich, the 49ers' leading scorer at 15.4 points per game coming in, was held scoreless until he hit a turnaround jumper with 10:32 left.

After teammate Martin Iti's bucket, Plavich nailed three consecutive 3s, one from 25 feet, another from 27 feet and the third an off-balance heave from the left corner to put Charlotte ahead 60-46 with 8:08 to go.

Plavich hit four more long 3-pointers as the 49ers (4-2) closed the game on a 42-14 run to hold onto the Hornets Nest Trophy, given annually to the winner of the in-county rivalry.

Plavich has made at least three 3s in every game and is 31-of-58 from behind the arc this season.

Curtis Withers added 15 points and 10 rebounds and E.J. Drayton scored 15 as Charlotte rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit and shook off the hangover of a triple-overtime loss to Alabama on Saturday.

Brendan Winters had 19 points and Ian Johnson added 14 for Davidson (3-4), which was outrebounded 39-27 as it lost to Charlotte for the eighth time in nine tries.

Davidson erased an early 8-2 deficit by hitting five of its first six 3-point attempts.

Logan Kosmalski's layup with 3:51 left gave the Wildcats their largest lead, 37-26.

But Davidson would go nearly eight minutes without scoring and miss 15 of 16 3-pointers during a 24-minute stretch.

NOTES (Supplied by 49ers Sports Information): Plavich leads the country in three-pointers made. He has hit 31-of-58 this season (.534), which is 5.2/game. He hit seven straight threes in the second half, after missing his first second half attempt.

Plavich's career high is a school-record 10 three-pointers at Syracuse, last year.

All of Plavich's top three-point games have come on the road: 10 at Syracuse; 9 at TCU; 7 at Davidson; 7 at Valparaiso; 7 vs. UAB (C-USA Tourney).

Junior Curtis Withers notched his first double-double of the season (15 points; 10 rebounds) after posting 16 double-doubles last year to rank fourth in the NCAA. Tonight's double-double is Withers' 20th of his career, tying him with Cedric Ball for fifth all-time for the 49ers.

Withers added a team-best five assists and a team-best four steals.

Plavich scored 23 points -- his second 20-point outng this year (21 at Valparaiso; 7-of-9 three-pointers)

Charlotte trailed at the half for th first time this season.

Charlotte, which shot .516 for the game, is 4-0 in games in which it shoots 50% or better.


Virginia 79, Furman 67

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Gary Forbes had 21 points, J.R. Reynolds added 18 and No. 19 Virginia used a late 20-10 run to beat Furman 79-67 on Wednesday night.

Elton Brown added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers (7-1).

Quan Prowell led Furman (3-4) with 14 points.

The Cavaliers, who lost 81-79 loss at Iowa State on Monday night, led 59-54 with 7:44 left against Furman before Smith ignited the big run with a jumper with 6:31 remaining.

The Cavaliers built a lead of 70-58 when Reynolds caught an alley-oop pass from Sean Singletary with 4:23 left. The Paladins cut the margin to eight but Reynolds hit a jumper, a 3-pointer and then fed Forbes for a layup as Virginia took a 79-64 lead with 2:09 remaining.

Brown made two free throws with 4 seconds left in the first half to give Virginia a 38-37 lead.
