Football 11/5/2004 1:07:00 AM Southern Conference Furman-Georgia Southern contest on C-SET Saturday Georgia Southern'sChaz Willams has17 touchdowns this season Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference returns to television this weekend as the Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television (C-SET) network will televise the match up between second-ranked Georgia Southern and third-ranked Furman on Saturday, November 6 in Greenville, SC. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will have Tom Werme and Rod Smith calling the action with Shannon Spake on the sidelines.The Georgia Southern Athletics Department and WGSA-UPN 13 have teamed to provide a local broadcast of the Eagles' game on Saturday at Furman. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. The game between #2 Georgia Southern and #3 Furman will be for the 2004 Southern Conference football championship. Georgia Southern has clinched a share of the title with a 6-0 league record. Saturday's game is the final SoCon contest for the Eagles. Furman, at 3-1 in league play, could claim a share of the title by winning its final three conference games of the year.The Eagles own a 4-2 record over Furman with four of the last six games being decided by 10 points or less. Second-ranked Georgia Southern (8-1, 6-0) is riding an eight-game winning streak. Led by senior quarterback Chaz Williams, the Eagles come into the game with the nation's best scoring offense, averaging 51.8 points per game. Georgia Southern also owns the nation's best rushing offense with 367.2 yards per game. Williams has rushed for 432 yards and a league-leading 17 touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker John Mohring anchors an Eagles defense that has held its opponents to a league-best 230.9 yards per game. On the season Mohring has racked up 45 total stops, 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.Third-ranked Furman's (6-2, 3-1) offense is led by quarterback Ingle Martin, who has thrown for 1,728 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. Brian Bratton has been on the receiving end of many of those passes as he has caught 37 balls for 511 yards and six touchdowns. The Paladins are led by junior linebacker William Freeman on the defensive side. Freeman has accounted for 71 total tackles (third-best in the SoCon), 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The matchup between the two SoCon powers will be shown on C-SET with a kickoff time of 2:00.C-SET is a new regional sports network based in Charlotte with one million viewers C-SET that will air Charlotte Bobcats NBA games to viewers in North and South Carolina.
