Chattanooga 4, Tennessee Tech 3 (2OT)

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Chattanooga's Tirza Ridgely nailed a deflected shot in front of the goal to tie the game at 3-3 with two seconds remaining in regulation. In the second overtime, Elfa Erlingsdottir found the back of the net as the Lady Mocs edged Tennessee Tech 4-3 at Finley Stadium on a rain-soaked Tuesday night.

With time winding down, and UTC trailing 3-2, the Lady Mocs poured on the attack. Sophomore Maya Peel charged the net and took a shot. It deflected to teammate Megan Chismark who shot the ball again. Another deflection found its way to Ridgely in front of the net and the Westminster, Md., sophomore nailed the ball into the goal and with just two ticks remaining on the clock sent the game into overtime.

"We as a team showed a lot of drive to pull out a win," UTC head coach J.D. Kyzer said. "We need to find a way to maintain our composure and lead."

The Lady Mocs controlled the first half, keeping the Eagles on the defense for much of the 45 minute period. Junior Diana Jallo scored both goals for Chattanooga in the first half raising her league-high total to 12. At 28:48, she took a pass from Peel and fired a shot that Eagle keeper Loretta McNamee got a hand on, but not enough, to put the Lady Mocs up 1-0.

Jallo's second goal came in the 41st minute on an assist from Erlingsdottir. From nearly 25 yards out, the Soddy Daisy junior sent another shot toward the net that got past McNamee who tallied eight saves on the night. UTC lead 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Tennessee Tech fought back and scored three goals in about 25 minutes. Joni Simmons, on the right side, started the scoring barrage at 53:18 on a pass from Kylie Hammer at the top of the box, putting Tech within one at 2-1. Twenty minutes later, Simmons notched her second goal solo as she beat out Chattanooga keeper Stacey Matthiessen to tie the match 2-2.

At the 78:42 mark, Danielle Parrott took a free kick from the left side and passed it along to Jocelyn Daniel waiting at the top of the box. Daniel found the back of the net to give Tech a brief 3-2 lead.

Ridgely's last-second goal sent the game into overtime and Chattanooga once again took full control.

While neither team could score in the first overtime period, the Lady Mocs' defense did not allow the Eagles to get off a single shot in either overtime. In regulation, Chattanooga outshot the Eagles 20-10 and then got off five more in both overtimes.

In the second overtime, Chattanooga made quick work of it and scored 1:31 into the period. Peel, standing at the top of the penalty box, sent a pass to Erlingsdottir a few feet away who lofted the shot into the left side of the net for the sudden victory goal.

"It was a hard-fought game on a field made horrible by the weather," Kyzer said. Just 17 minutes before the start of the game, a drenching downpour made a pond out of the field.

Chattanooga will return to Southern Conference action Friday night hosting Georgia Southern at Finley Stadium. The game, originally scheduled to be played in the evening was changed to 4:00 p.m. to accommodate the Baylor-McCallie football game to be played at Finley that night.
