Elon Names Assistant Track Coach

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University announced today the addition of Donnie Davis to the women's track and field coaching staff. Davis will be primarily coaching hurdlers and jumpers, both of which he's coached on the national level for the Durham Striders Track and Field Club.

"He has an extreme knowledge in the areas of hurdling and jumping," said Elon head track and field coach Jackie Sgambati. "He'll bring our athletes to the national level."

Davis comes to Elon after serving as the head girls track and field coach for nearby Cummings High School and as the assistant boys' coach since 1987. In 2003, he was named Mid-State Conference Coach of the Year. He has coached eight girls' NCHSAA outdoor state championship teams, one indoor state championship squad and 61 individual state champions.

Davis has coached for the Durham Striders Track and Field Club since 1983, serving as the Chief Age Group Coach. He coached 26 individual Junior Olympic national champions and four national championship teams. In 1993, he claimed the honor of National Age Group Track and Field Association National Coach of the Year.
