Davidson Downs Citadel, 68-44

DAVIDSON, N.C. -The Davidson men's basketball team won its second straight game, this time in dominating fashion as the Wildcats posted a 68-44 victory over The Citadel in Southern Conference action at Belk Arena on Tuesday night. Sophomore Brendan Winters once again sparked the Wildcat offense, scoring 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Davidson (6-7, 1-1) remains a perfect 6-0 on its home court. The Bulldogs fall to 4-9 overall, 0-2 in league play.

Davidson started strong from the opening tip with a Matt McKillop three-pointer capping a 17-3 Wildcat run to open the game. The 'Cats would score 26 points to The Citadel's nine as the Bulldogs opened up hitting only four of their first 16 shot attempts.

But a Wildcat scoring drought of almost six minutes allowed the Bulldogs to claw their way back and cut the Davidson advantage to only eight, 29-21, with less than a minute to play. Junior forward Logan Kosmalski dumped in a layup in the final seconds to push the lead to 10, however, at the break.

After The Citadel scored the first two points of the second half, Davidson put the game out of reach, scoring 18 unanswered points over the next nine minutes of action. The Wildcats connected on 54 percent of its second-half attempts, including 5-of-10 from long range. Davidson would build a lead of as many as 31 before earning the 24-point victory.

For the second consecutive game, the 'Cats took good care of the ball, turning it over only four times in the first half and 10 times in the game. Sophomore point guard Kenny Grant had a spotless game with six assists without a turnover in 25 minutes. Grant has tallied 16 assists while turning the ball over only three times in the last three contests. Davidson also outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-35.

Kosmalski was the only other Wildcat in double figures, scoring 12 points to go along with five rebounds in the contest. Junior Conor Grace had a team-high eight rebounds. Bulldog freshman J'mel Everhart had his first career double-double, leading the team with 11 points and a personal-best 13 rebounds.

Davidson goes on the road to battle SoCon North Division foe Chattanooga on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. The Citadel remains on the road to face Georgia Southern on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
