BOONE, N.C.--Lee Roper, David Hazell, Scott Ervin and Jason Jones came away with champion honors and 10 others earned top six placings at the Hitchcock Classic, hosted by Millersville. The Apps totaled 144 total team points to prove better than four other squads en route to their first title of the season.

The defending Southern Conference champion at 165 pounds, Roper used a 2-0 decision in the finals to earn the top spot.

Veteran Jason Jones notched a pin fall in the second period of his semifinal bout and claimed a decisive win (20-7) in the finals to win the crown at 149 pounds. Jones finished the tournament 3-0.

Rookie Scott Ervin capped an impressive day at 141 pounds with a pin fall in the final 10 seconds of his final bout to win first place. Teammate Tim Paul garnered fourth with a pair of wins.

In the deepest weight class at the event, David Hazell bettered fellow Mountaineer Jared Campbell by a count of 3-0 in the heavyweight championship fray. Hazell finished the day 4-0 with a pin fall to his credit.

Campbell won a pair of bouts before dropping the final. Fellow freshman heavyweight Reuben Daniels earned a 1-2 mark.

Guy Gibson notched a pair of wins and a loss at 125. His second victory gave him third place.

Ty Williams registered three wins, including a pin and finished third at 133. Andy Madison registered a 2-2 record to take the fifth spot. Tywana Holley lost both of his bouts.

At 157, Carl Elliott notched two wins, including a second-period pin fall that advanced him to the finals. Elliott dropped the championship match to finish 2-1. Alex Davis went 0-3 to take sixth.

Dominic Buckman paced the trio of 174-pound Mountaineers. Buckman won his semifinal bout, but lost in the finals to take second. Ajay Foreman notched a 3-1 record, including a pin fall. Foreman took third place match with the tie breaker. Corey Pendergrass recorded a 1-2 day with a pin.

Both Appalachian grapplers placed in the 184 pound division. Highlighted by a pin that took 1:22, Aaron Barnette posted a 2-1 record. Barnette dropped the finals 3-2. Chris Toukonen earned a win by technical fall and a pin in the second period on his way to a 3-1 mark and third place effort.
