SoCon Volleyball Results from Friday

Elon 3, Wofford 1

The Wofford volleyball team lost to new Southern Conference opponent
Elon Friday evening, 3-1, in Burlington, N.C. After winning the first
game, 31-29, Wofford fell 18-30, 21-30, 28-30 to close the match.

Leading the charge for the Lady Terriers was junior outside hitter
Andrea Duke. Duke finished the match with match-highs of 19 kills, 60
total attacks, six service aces and 26.0 points. Her 13 digs were one
behind team leader, senior captain Lindsay Lyman. Sophomore setter Rhea
deJesus posted 34 assists for the Lady Terriers and also reached double
figures in digs with 11. Sophomore Angela Berry was the only other
Wofford player to reach double figures in points, as she totaled 14.0 on
11 kills and 27 total attacks. Sophomore Katie Sobczyk recorded 21
total attacks and freshman Megan Propst tallied 20 total attacks in the
total team effort.

The Phoenix had four players reach double digits in points, while six
posted at least 10 total attacks.

With the loss, the Lady Terriers fall to 4-9, 0-2 SoCon, while Elon
improves to 7-9, 1-1 in league play.

Wofford will continue its season Sunday afternoon as it plays at UNC
Greensboro in another league match at 2 p.m.


Davidson 3, The Citadel 1

Charleston, SC - The Citadel played four intense games before its largest home crowd of the season only to be defeated 3-1 in a volleyball match-up against Davidson Friday night in McAlister Field House.

A total of 257 attendees cheered the Bulldogs on as they defeated the Wildcats in the second game and forced Davidson to fight for the win in the third and fourth games only being defeated by a couple of points.

Leading the Citadel was senior middle blocker Lindsey Hodge who ended the night with 17 kills, two service aces and two solo blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Stefanie Farris contributed 13 kills and five digs and junior middle blocker Audra Ritchie added 12 kills, three digs and four solo blocks.

"I'm proud of the way the girls played tonight," coach Wendy Anderson said. "The games were close. They showed a lot of intensity and effort, but just couldn't finish with the win."

Senior middle blocker Latisha Chapman was the Citadel's biggest threat, dominating the Wildcats with a total of 19 kills, four service aces and two solo blocks. Junior outside hitter Meredith Lorenz added 17 kills and freshman opposite Liz Williamson added 11 kills and three solo blocks.

The Citadel will travel to Greenville on Friday, October 3 to take on Furman. Game time is 7 p.m.


College of Charleston 3, Charlotte 0

Stephanie Ballard recorded 12 kills as the College of Charleston (8-4) swept Charlotte (6-10) three games to zero from the Johnson Center. The Cougars won the first game 30-24, the second game 30-21 and closed out the match with a 30-19 win in game three.

Ballard led the way with 12 kills and seven digs in the non-conference win. Sara Davis added 10 kills and posted 15 digs for the Cougars. Becca Shaw recorded nine digs and eight digs as the team recorded its fourth consecutive sweep.

Leading the way for the 49ers for Lisa Newell and Katie Hall with 11 kills a piece. Chanda Waller recorded 10 digs for Charlotte and Millicent Martin added four kills.

The Cougars do not have long to think about the non-conference win as they get back to SoCon play on Sunday at 2 PM when they take on Davidson.

Charleston has won 22 consecutive SoCon matches dating back to last year. The team has also won 12 consecutive games overall this season and it is the longest such streak since October 29- November 9, 2002 when the Cougars swept six straight matches.
