STATESBORO, Ga. - Tony Moffat scored a pair of goals as Georgia Southern and Jacksonville played to a 2-2 tie in non-conference men's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Eagle Field.


Jacksonville (1-5-2) got on the scoreboard first as Jason Alicea scored in the 19th minute of play. Brian Blackburn served the ball into the box, where Tyler Stansberry was waiting. Eagle keeper Adam Webb was able to deflect Stansberry's shot, but Alicea picked up the rebound and sent the ball into the left corner for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 Jacksonville lead.

Georgia Southern (1-4-2) answered less than two minutes later after Moffat was fouled just outside the Jacksonville box. Moffat's direct kick sailed over the out-stretched hand of Dolphin keeper Mike Miller to knot the game at 1-1 at the 20:32 mark.

The two team played scoreless for the next 47 minutes before Blackburn once again put Jacksonville on top at 67:48. Blackburn was fouled inside the box by Brad Mitchum and sent the ensuing penalty kick into the right corner of the net for a 2-1 Dolphin advantage.

Moffat scored his second goal of the game, and fifth of the season, with just 3:45 remaining to even the game at 2-2. The senior forward took a pass from Patrick Gillen deep in the Dolphins' area and fired a shot into the right corner to force overtime.

After Webb stopped a Jacksonville shot two minutes into the first overtime, Georgia Southern dominated play the remainder of the game but was unable to force across the winning goal. The Eagles' best chance came with three minutes remaining in the game as James Walker scooped up a Miller deflection and tried to flip the ball over the prone keeper, only to have Miller recover and snag the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Georgia Southern owned a 20-13 advantage in shots on the game, including a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagle also owned a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Georgia Southern returns to action Sunday, September 28 when its hosts Appalachian State at 1:00 p.m. on Eagle Field.
