Men's Tennis 9/17/2003 6:32:00 AM Southern Conference Terriers Open Tennis Season With Performance at the GWU Invitational The Wofford men's tennis program opened its 2003-04 season with a strong showing at this past weekend's Gardner-Webb Invitational in Boiling Springs, N.C. At the tournament, the Terriers competed hard and played well for the season opener. "Our main goal in this tournament was to have results that would give us an accurate evaluation of where we are today," said fourth-year head coach Rod Ray. "The goal was accomplished. Overall, we competed well and showed a lot of class. We are working hard to improve our doubles play, and we showed some good signs for the future. Specifically, junior Brett Johnson showed remarkable progress on thedoubles side. But, as a team, we need to continue to get better. The players are working hard to make that happen, as they have a goodunderstanding of where we need to go. Each player has a specific area to concentrate on in practice, and I believe they will continue toimprove." The Terriers will be back in action Sept. 26-28 at the Chattanooga Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
