Davidson Hosts Pre-Conference Championship Meet

DAVIDSON, N.C. - In just her second collegiate cross country event, Davidson junior Kelly Fillnow has her first-ever victory, finishing first in today's Davidson Open. Completing the 5K course in a time of 19:05, Fillnow beat her closest competitor by more than 20 seconds.

The women's team finished second to the Furman Paladins by a score of 28-41. The Wildcats were led by Fillnow and sophomore Allie Martin who finished third. Junior Sally Stanhope (11), senior Jenna Kruppa (15) and senior Laura Puckett (17) rounded out Davidson's scoring.

Southern Conference foe ETSU won the men's team title, edging out Davidson by one point. UNC Charlotte freshman, Russell Slade turned in an impressive rookie performance to finish second behind unattached runner Ed Schlichter. Schlichter won the race with a time of 26:11. Wildcat sophomore Jonathan Baker led the 'Cats, finishing sixth and tying the school record on the Davidson course at 26:26. Baker's time is believed to be a record-setting performance by a Davidson sophomore.
