Women's Soccer 9/11/2003 4:02:00 AM Southern Conference SoCon Women's Soccer Results, Wednesday, Sept. 10 Wofford 1, Coastal Carolina 0Junior Abby Anderson scored with only two and a half minutes remaining (87:30) to give the Wofford Lady Terriers women's soccer team a 1-0 triumph over Coastal Carolina and provide the squad its second win in its last three games.Anderson was on the receiving end of an assist from freshman Jessica Connett. After the initial pass, Anderson dribbled past the sprawling Chanticleer goalkeeper Candice Doten to fire the ball into an open net.Wofford stepped up its defensive efforts in the second half and rallied as a team despite being outshot, 22-11 on the evening.Freshman goalkeeper Austin Somers extended her scoreless streak in the cage to 268:09, dating back to the season opener at No. 19 Clemson. She recorded a career-high 10 saves in the victory and has lowered her season goals against average to 0.93 in 290 minutes of action."I thought we fought really hard," said Wofford head coach Amy Kiah. "Anderson scored a great goal, and it was great to have Connett back too. The defense played really well and stepped it up, as we really did not have one person standout. It was definitely a team win. I'm excited about the future and the rest of the season."With the victory, the Lady Terriers improve to 2-1-1, including a 2-0-1 mark in the recent three game homestand. The Chanticleers fall to 4-2 on the season.Wofford will next open its Southern Conference season as it travels across the state to face rival the College of Charleston Tues., Sept. 16.
