Women's Golf 7/22/2003 5:24:00 PM Southern Conference Elon's Olds Qualifis For U.S. Amateur GREENSBORO, NC -- Morgan Olds (Stamford, CT/ Stamford), a rising junior golfer at Elon University, recently qualified for the United States Women's Amateur that will be held in Philadelphia, PA on August 4-9. In the regional qualifier, held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, Olds shot a 73 and tied for fourth in a field of 53 golfers. The top-seven finishers advanced to the United States Women's Amateur. The United States Women's Amateur field will be composed of nearly 150 golfers. Monday and Tuesday of the tournament will follow a stroke play format. After the first two days there will be an elimination which will reduce the field to 64 golfers. For the rest of the week, the remaining participants will compete using a match play format. During her 2002-2003 season of 27 rounds at Elon, Olds averaged a score of 79.37. She had three top-10 finishes during the campaign, including a first place finish at the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate where she shot a 77-77 for an overall score of 154. She posted a season-low round of 72 at the Lady Highlander Invitational where she finished fifth out of a field of 71.
