Davidson Names Assistant Volleyball Coach

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson volleyball head coach Tim Cowie recently announced the hiring of Jennifer Hampton as the new assistant coach for the upcoming 2003 season.

"Jen brings a wealth of playing experience that will transfer to her natural coaching abilities," stated Cowie. "She is known for her fierce competitiveness on the court and I look forward to her instilling that into our players and program. Her ability to evaluate talent and communicate with today's young players will be a great asset to our recruiting process."

Hampton, a native of Houston, Texas, graduated from Louisiana State University this past spring. A four-year letterwinner for the Tigers, Hampton left LSU as one of only four players ever to record 1,000 career kills and digs. The outside hitter earned All-SEC second team honors in both her junior and senior seasons as well. In her final year with the Tigers, Hampton was named to the Florida State Invitational all-tournament team and most valuable player of the Sugar Bowl Classic while helping LSU to a second-place finish in the SEC Western Division.

Besides playing at Louisiana State for four years, Hampton served as a coach at LSU's volleyball individual and team camps since 2000. She has also spent time coaching Houston Juniors Volleyball as well as a middle school team in Baton Rouge, La.

Hampton's duties at Davidson will include serving as recruiting coordinator, handling travel arrangements and equipment.

Last season, the Wildcats finished 23-11 overall and third in the Southern Conference with a 15-5 league mark. Davidson opens the 2003 campaign at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa., on August 29 and 30.
