Men's Tennis 7/22/2003 3:17:00 AM Southern Conference Cameron Earns Postgraduate Scholarship GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman tennis standout James Cameron wasawarded a $6,900 NCAA Postgraduate scholarship, it was announced on Monday.A native of Harrare, Zimbabwe, who graduated Furman with a 3.95 GPA inhealth and exercise science, Cameron is the 12th Furman athlete to earn aprestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, and is the only spring sportrecipient in the state of South Carolina. A 2002 Doubles All-American,Cameron was the 2003 Southern Conference Player of the Year and MaleAthlete of the Year. He posted a 16-10 singles record and 18-6 doublesmark while playing No. 1 for the 14-12 Paladins in the spring of 2003, andwas ranked as high as No. 113 in singles and No. 19 in doubles by the ITA.The NCAA awards 58 spring postgraduate scholarships; 29 to men and 29 towomen. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excelacademically and athletically and who are in their last year ofintercollegiate athletics competition. Nominees are required to have agrade point average of 3.200 and the intention of continuing theiracademic work beyond the baccalaureate degree. Cameron, who is the first Paladin tennis player to earn this prestigiousgrant, will attend the Emory University School of Medicine in the fall.
