Men's Outdoor Track and Field 5/11/2003 6:15:00 PM Southern Conference Banevicius Qualifies For NCAA Regional STANFORD, Calif. -- Sophomore transfer Gediminas Banevicius became the 10th NCAA Mideast Region qualifier for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at the Cardinal Qualifier in Stanford, Calif., Friday afternoon.Banevicius cruised past the finish line with a time of 14:13.93, 11 seconds faster than the 14:25.00 qualifying mark. In the fall, he was a national qualifier in men's cross country.Sophomore Colin Sullivan improved his place in the region qualifying by shaving nearly a second-and-a-half off his previous time in the 1500 meter. He was 17th overall with a time of 3:48.55.Freshman Linas Salkauskas finished the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:13.11, but did not improve his seeding for the region.Steven Kocsis who qualified for the 5000 meter run by winning the event at the Southern Conference championships, improved his time by five seconds. Robert Hatcher just missed qualifying in the 800 meter run by a little more than one second.The Mocs will compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday, May 17. The NCAA Mideast Regional will take place in Columbus, Ohio, May 30-31 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State campus.
