Davidson Announces Soccer Class

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson women's soccer coach Kevin Hundley announced the signing of 10 incoming freshman, who will join the team for the 2003 season.

"We are very excited about this year's incoming class," Coach Hundley said. "From top to bottom they are one of the best groups we have ever had. There is the potential for a number of them to make an immediate impact."

Robin French, a native of Salem, Ore., will join the 'Cats on defense. French, a four-year member of South Salem High's varsity team, earned first team all-league honors in 1999 and 2000 and second team honors during her senior season. She was also a two-time member of the Oregon State Olympic Development Team. She served as class president and was valedictorian during her senior year.

Cameron Hardesty of Plano, Texas, is the recipient of the Bryan Scholarship for the class of 2007. A four-year varsity player and three-time all-conference selection at the Hockaday School, Hardesty will move between the midfield and defense. She played club soccer for the 86 Sting and was a member of the North Texas Olympic Development Team from 2000-02.

Kara Hawkesworth, from Harrisburg, Pa., will also help the Wildcats on defense. She was a three-year varsity starter at Central Dauphin High School and played club soccer for Super Nova FC.

Lauren Kalodner, a native of Wallingford, Pa., was a four-year varsity team member for Strath Haven High School. She led her team to three Eastern Pennsylvania State Championships and captained her club team, the Nether Providence Nightmares.

Jessica Lahre of San Diego, Calif., will reunite with former high school teammates Kara Koehrn and Liz Mannino in the fall. Lahre earned All-Coast League honors in 2002 and 2003 and received All-California Interscholastic Federation second team honors in 2002. As a senior, her high school team claimed the CIF Div. IV Championship. Lahre's club team, San Diego Surf White, won the 1995 and 1998 State Cup and were runners up in '94, '96 and '99. She was the 2002 and 2003 San Diego Union Tribune Scholar-Athlete. Lahre also played on the District II Olympic Development Team.

Anne Stevens, a native of Bexley, Ohio, will join former teammate Jenny Soldano in 2003. A four-year varsity starter, Stevens was named all-league the past three years and first team all-district in 2002 and 2003. She helped lead her high school to three state semi-final games, plus played club soccer for Blast Futbol Club.

Amanda Traver, a forward from Duanesburg, N.Y., was a five-year varsity soccer player at Duanseburg Central High School. She captained the team her junior and senior years and was named Most Valuable Player the last three seasons. In 2001 and 2002 she was named league MVP and earned all-state honors. She also received all-district honors in 2000, '01 and '02. She was a member of the Capital United Soccer Club, which reached the state cup finals in '98 and '01. Traver played for the Eastern New York North Olympic Development Team as well.

Rachel Wightman comes to Davidson after winning the Illinois High School State Championship in 2002 as a member of the Evanston Township High School soccer team. Wightman, a native of
Evanston, Ill., was a three-year varsity team member and earned all-conference honors. As a member of the Sockers Futbol Club, she won the 2002 State Cup. From 1999-2003 she played with the Illinois State Olympic Development Team, which won the regional tournament during those years. In 2003, the team won the national championship.

Heidi Wilbrandt, a forward from Woodstock, Ill., will team up with former club team member Lauren Hungerland. Wilbrandt was a four-year starter for Marion Central High School. She was named offensive MVP for her high school in 2000, '01 and '02 and was an all-sectional selection in 2001 and 2002. Her club team, the Rockford Dactyls, won the 2002 Superclub Indoor Nationals.

Maggie Womack is the lone native of North Carolina to sign with Davidson. The forward from New Bern, was a four-year starter at New Bern High School. She was a three-time all-conference selection and two time all-region team member. She led her club team, the CASL Elite, to the 2003 State Cup Championships. Womack was also a member of the North Carolina State Olympic Development Team. She was honored as class valedictorian as well.
