Rain Postpones More SoCon Baseball, April 9, 2003

UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wednesday night's baseball game at The UNCG Baseball Stadium between UNCG and Elon has been postponed due to the inclement weather. The game will be made up, but that date and time has yet to be determined.

The Spartans (22-9, 7-5 SoCon) will not return to action until this weekend's huge Southern Conference series with Western Carolina. The Catamounts (23-10, 13-2 SoCon) stand atop the conference standings after their three-game sweep of Georgia Southern this past weekend.

Davidson

Davidson College's baseball game scheduled at 19th-ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday was postponed due to rain. Although a date has not been set as of yet, the game will likely be made up next week on either Tuesday, April 15 or Thursday, April 17.

This is the ninth date on which Davidson has had to either postpone or cancel a baseball game this season, but just the second over the past month.

Davidson (10-17, 5-12 in Southern Conference) will host The Citadel (20-12, 10-2) this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Friday night at 7 p.m. The visiting Bulldogs are currently in second place in the league, while the Wildcats stand in ninth.

Western Carolina

Cullowhee, N.C. - For the second time in as many days, a baseball game between 29th-ranked Western Carolina and UNC Asheville was postponed due to inclement weather. The teams managed to squeeze in one inning of play, before the game was halted at 7:10 due to lightening. Then, the field was deemed unplayable at 8:26 pm after a 50 minute rain storm. No date has been set at this time to makeup yesterday's or tonight's games.

Western Carolina, who is in first place in the Southern Conference with a 13-2 record, will return to league play this weekend with a three-game set at UNC Greensboro, who is 7-5 and in third place in the conference. First pitch Friday (April 11) is set for 7 pm and can heard on WWCU (90.5 FM) or via the internet at www.catamountsports.com. Saturday's game is set for a 1 pm start, as is Sunday's, which will also be broadcast on WWCU (90.5 FM) and catamountsports.com.
