Charleston, S.C. -- College of Charleston guard Troy Wheless has
been named Associated Press honorable mention All-American, it was
announced April 3.

Wheless, a senior from Bunn, N.C., played in all 33 games this past
season and led the Cougars averaging 15.2 points per game. He hit a
school-best 102-of-244 3-point shots, including a school-record eight
treys in Charleston's 94-89 overtime win at Davidsion on February 25th.
Wheless' 208 career 3-pointers was just 12 shy of the school mark of 220
held by Marion Busby (1992-95).

Wheless was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Year by
the league's Head Coaches and by the Southern Conference Sports Media
Association (SCSMA), and a Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com.

Wheless, who helped Charleston to a 25-8 overall record, a Southern
Conference-best 13-3 league mark and the Great Alaska Shootout
championship in November, became the seventh conference Player of the
Year award recipient in Charleston's 10 years of conference play. Marion
Busby (1994), Thaddeous Delaney (1996), Anthony Johnson (1997) and Sedric
Webber (1998) earned the honor during Charleston's five years in the
Trans America Athletic Conference (now the Atlantic Sun).

Wheless was also named first team all-conference by the SoCon's
media and head coaches. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the
Great Alaska Shootout for his performances in wins over Wyoming, Oklahoma
State and Villanova.
