Women's Basketball 2/5/2003 4:50:00 AM Southern Conference UNCG Uses A Late Run to Upend Davidson, 70-63 DAVIDSON, N.C. - Down 63-56 with 4:34 remaining in regulation, the UNCG women's basketball team scored the final 14 points of the contest to defeat Davidson, 70-63, Tuesday evening in Belk Arena. The victory was the Spartans' (10-9, 6-5 SoCon) eighth straight over the Wildcats (9-11, 4-7) dating back to 1999.UNC Greensboro utilized two free throws by Kellan Law and a jumper by Stephanie Britt to claw to within three, 63-60, with 3:20 left. Jacinda Lambert proceeded to tie the game with an old-fashioned three-point play at the 2:50 mark. After senior Bethany Schott missed a free throw and putback opportunity to put Davidson back on top, the Spartans eventually took the lead for good on a Nicole Murray layup with 1:06 showing on the clock.The Wildcats missed two chances to level the contest in the final minute before Lambert tallied a breakaway layup to seal the game. Davidson ended the game going 0-for-8 from the field in the final 4:34.Lambert led UNCG with 14 points, all scored in the second half, on 6-for-14 shooting. Stephanie Britt (13 points) and Nicole Murray (12 points) chipped in with double figures as well. Defensively, the Spartans were dominant on the boards throughout the game, outrebounding Davidson, 44-31.Sophomore Emily Callahan paced Davidson with a game-high 19 points, but only notched four in the final 20 minutes. Schott added 13 points while junior Courtney Laird tallied a career-high five blocks.Davidson never trailed in the first stanza. Three pointers by Laird and Callahan quickly put the 'Cats up 8-3 less than three minutes in. Four times the Wildcats would stretch their advantage to 11 in the latter portions of the half. However, five turnovers in a span of six possessions enabled UNCG to end the period on an 11-2 spurt, making the score 33-31 in favor of Davidson at the break.At the start of the second half, UNC Greensboro grabbed its first lead, 34-33, on a jumper by Shanika Jackson. Later in the half after four ties, the Spartans used five more Davidson turnovers to key a 7-0 run to jump ahead, 51-44. From there, the Wildcats responded with a 19-5 stretch over six minutes to go in front by a count of 63-56.Davidson next plays host to Furman on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m.
