Men's Soccer 12/9/2003 2:40:00 AM Southern Conference Davidson Men's Soccer Players Earn Spots on All-State Team DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior defender Justin Porter and junior goalkeeper Bart Creasman were among the 11 individuals chosen for the 2003 NorthCarolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men's Soccer Team. The team consists of NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. Nominees that totaled 47 weresubmitted by North Carolina SIDs at 12 of the 15 Division I schools that participate in men's soccer and were voted on by NCCSIA members. Theall-state soccer teams include one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.Porter, a senior from Norman, Okla., led the all-state team with 20 of a possible 24 votes. He led the Wildcats defense to a 0.85 goals-againstaverage, allowing just 20 goals in 23 outings. Three of the single-season school record 10 shutouts came in the Southern ConferenceTournament where Davidson earned the league crown and automatic berth in the NCAA Championship. Porter also earned second-team all-conferencehonors and a spot on the all-tournament team. The defender was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 first team as both a junior andsenior."Justin was rightfully voted co-captain by his teammates because he's a tremendous leader," said head coach Matt Spear. " For his successfulsenior campaign, he was the heart and soul of our team. His limitless energy carried us in many games, and he was an inspiration for manyaround him. He is also a Bryan Scholar who achieves in the classroom and will attend medicalschool."Creasman also represented Davidson on the all-state team after setting a new school record for shutouts in a season with eight. The junior fromLake Mary, Fla., posted a 0.76 goals against average, also a single-season best at Davidson. Creasman was named second-team all-conference and was a member of the SoCon all-tournament team. Bart stepped forward this season with the skill, poise, and game-changing plays that any successful team needs from the keeperposition," Spear commented. " He makes his teammates better because they know he is ready when called upon. His effort and leadership havegarnered a team-voted co-captaincy for the 2004 season."Davidson ended its season with a record of 15-6-2, the most wins since the 1992 squad posted 17 victories. The Wildcats lost their final gameto Coastal Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
