Associated Press, American Football Coaches Name All-America Teams

SPARTANBURG --Both the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association named their 2003 NCAA Division I-AA All-America teams on Wednesday, December 17.

Two Southern Conference players were named to the AFCA team which selects just a first team. Appalachian State defensive end K.T. Stovall and Wofford free safety Matt Nelson were each named to the AFCA squad.

The Associated Press awarded All-America honors to eight SoCon players including Stovall and Nelson who earned first team AP honors as well. Joining the first team on offense was Wofford guard Eric Deutsch.

Georgia Southern fullback Jermaine Austin was a second team choice on the AP squad.

There were four SoCon players named to the AP third team including wide receiver Alonzo Nix of Chattanooga, guard Bobby Gibbs of Wofford, placekicker Danny Marshall of Furman and punter Nate McKiney of Appalachian State.
