The Phoenix swept thegames by scores of 30-27, 30-22 and 30-27. Duke, needing four kills entering the match to break the Woffordsingle-season kills mark, set the new standard by spiking home the firstpoint of game two. She finished the match with eight to raise the barto 364, surpassing Judy Nwajiaku's record of 359 set in 1989. Junior Katie Laser paced the Lady Terriers with 12 kills, 36 totalattacks and 12.0 points, while Duke garnered 29 total attacks, threeservice aces, nine digs and 11.0 points in addition to her eight kills. Setter Rhea deJesus also led Wofford with a .400 hitting percentage and33 assists, while libero Lindsay Lyman tied Duke for the team lead withnine digs. Elon was led offensively by Emily Hayes, who recorded match-highs of 13kills, 33 total attacks and 15.0 points. Four other players registereddouble-digit total attacks for the Phoenix. With the loss, the Lady Terriers fall to 7-18 overall and 3-10 in theSouthern Conference. Elon improves to 14-14 and 7-6 in league play. Wofford will conclude its four-match homestand Tuesday evening as itbattles UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. at Benjamin Johnson Arena.Davidson 3, The Citadel 0DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore Rachel Gleed notched a match-high 16 kills, one shy of her career best, as the Davidson volleyball team downed The Citadel Friday night in Belk Arena, 30-24, 30-21 and 30-16. With the win, Davidson improves to 12-16 overall and 5-7 in the Southern Conference while the Bulldogs fall to 4-19 and 0-13.The first game was tight throughout with the visiting Bulldogs holding a slim 23-22 edge late in the game. Behind a couple of aces from junior Meredith Lorenz and two kills from Gleed, the Wildcats were able to jump-start the attack and take seven straight points to get to game point, 29-23. Following a sideout by The Citadel, freshman Jenna Dykstra ended the game with one of her six putaways in the match.Davidson pulled away late in the second game as well to grab a commanding 2-0 advantage. With the score tied at 19-19, the 'Cats conjured up an 11-2 spurt to finish the game. Defensively, the Wildcats held The Citadel to a -.028 hitting percentage in game two.To complete the sweep, Davidson hit a match-high .500 in the third game while cruising to a 30-16 win.Senior Latisha Chapman chipped in with 13 putaways and five blocks in the winning effort. Meanwhile, junior Tamara Gallen finished with 10 digs, marking the third straight match the libero has reached double-figure digs.For The Citadel, Lindsey Hodge registered a team-best 11 kills while setter Desiree Browning recorded a match-high 26 assists.Davidson is right back in action tomorrow, Nov. 1, when the Wildcats host College of Charleston. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. The Citadel stays on the road to face Chicago State on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m.
