Wofford

Coming off its most successful season in 2002-03 and a strong showing
during the fall tournament campaign, the Wofford men's tennis program
has signed one player to a National Letter of Intent to begin play in
the fall of 2004 it was announced Monday by head coach Rod Ray.

Andrew Stubbs from Hilton Head High School in Hilton Head, S.C., is the
lone men's signee. A two-time defending S.C. 4-A state singles champion
and two-time state player of the year, Stubbs comes from a strong family
background in the sport. His older brother Matt is a four-time No. 1
player at The Citadel, while his older sister Kristen is a former
four-time No. 1 player at Virginia Tech and currently serves as an
assistant women's coach for the Hokies under former Wake Forest star
Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods. Kristen was recognized as the 2002 national
recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Arthur Ashe Award
for Leadership and Sportsmanship.

Andrew has also been ranked as the No. 1 singles player in the South and
currently holds a ranking of No. 5. In the national rankings, he has
placed as high as No. 45.

At Hilton Head H.S., Stubbs has been the school's top player since the
eighth grade and has posted an 80-5 mark throughout his career. He has
served as the captain for the Seahawks each of the last two years.

"He's a fierce competitor," commented Ray. "His exceptional record
speaks for itself. He truly is an outstanding player, but more than
being just a great player, he is a young man with exceptional character
and work ethic. He'll have a positive influence in just about
everything we do."

The Wofford men's tennis program will open its dual match season Jan. 24
as it travels to Deland, Fla., for a contest against Atlantic Sun
opponent Stetson.

Elon

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University head men's tennis coach Tom Parham today announced the signing of Brian Edmundson (Raleigh, N.C./Needham Broughton) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2004-05 year.
Edmundson has compiled a 70-1 career singles record and has won a state doubles title. He has been ranked as high as seventh in the state of North Carolina and 43rd in the nation by the USTA. Edmundson has helped to lead Steve Spivey's Needham Broughton squad to back-to-back 4A state titles in 2002 and 2003.

Brian is the son of Wells Edmundson and Jan Swanson.
