Women's Basketball 11/16/2003 6:28:00 PM Southern Conference Lady Mocs Post Exhibition Victory CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Sophomore forward Tiffani Roberson, who was a memberof the 2003 Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, picked up where she leftwith a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Mocs' basketball team to an83-52 exhibition victory over the NWBL Elite Team Friday night at McKenzieArena.The Lady Mocs had trouble finding the range in the first half, but theywarmed up after intermission to pull away from the NWBL team. KatieGalloway scored 13 points, Katasha Brown 12 and Shamya Sermons 10. MirandaWarfield nearly pulled off a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.Chattanooga won the rebounding battled 54-40, and it had 24 offensiveboards. Mississippi State transfer Lyndi Sippel had nine boards andRoberson picked up eight, including seven offensive.The Lady Mocs shot just 36.1 percent in the first half and were 4-for-15 on3-pointers. UTC went to work on the interior after halftime and hit 50percent from the floor. Roberson had 13 of her points and six of herrebounds in the final 20 minutes."We know we've got to be better a week from tonight (regular-season openervs. UAB)," said a disappointed UTC coach Wes Moore. "I was disappointed inour boxing out and our work on the defensive boards. We gave up 17offensive rebounds, and we didn't shoot the ball well, especially in thefirst half. Hopefully the second half is more of an indication of the typeteam we'll have."Coach Moore looked at several on-court combinations and rotations in theLady Mocs' only exhibition contest. Sophomore Nicole Mattison was apleasant surprise with seven assists and six rebounds. Sermons picked upfour steals and Warfield grabbed three.Mercy Okorie led the NWBL Elite Team with 14 points and seven rebounds.Monika Roberts added 10 points.
