College of Charleston Volleyball Team Sets SoCon Win Record

Stephanie Ballard recorded 19 kills and 16 digs as the College of Charleston
set a Southern Conference record for most consecutive regular season
conference wins by capturing their 23rd match in a row with a 3-1 win over
Georgia Southern in women's volleyball action before 517 at John Kresse
Arena on Tuesday.

Four players posted double figures in kills as the Cougars (12-4, 5-0 SoCon)
defeated the Eagles (8-9, 3-1) 30-20, 31-33, 30-25, and 30-28.

The Cougars closed out the match and went into the record book when Ballard
tossed an attack just over the net for the match clinching point. Marie
Dobrenz paced the Cougars defensively with 30 digs for the second
consecutive match. Rebecca Wieters and Becca Shaw added 12 kills each for
the Cougars. The Cougars entered the night in a four way tie for the record
with Davidson (1998-2000), Chattanooga (1997-1998), Appalachian State
(1994-1995).

"This is a great accomplishment for our program," said College of Charleston
head coach Sherry Dunbar. "It is a testament to our team's hard work and the
support that we have received from our fans and the administration. It was a
great match in front of a great crowd that really set the atmosphere and
they saw a great game between two very good teams. This victory was a total
team effort and the balance we saw tonight is what this team is all about
and the record is a great indicator of that."

Martina Veiglova led the way for the Eagles with a game high 32 kills and
recorded 19 of the team's 96 digs. Kristin Kasprak added 13 kills to
complement Veiglova's aggressiveness around the net.

Both teams play SoCon matches on Friday. Charleston plays host to Western
Carolina at 7:00, while the Eagles take on Wofford in Statesboro.
