Women's Soccer 10/31/2003 3:14:00 AM Southern Conference Davidson Drops 2-1 Decision to ETSU on Last-Second Goal DAVIDSON, N.C. - East Tennessee State freshman Emily Fulcher scored with just ten seconds remaining in the game to lift the visiting Buccaneer women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Davidson Wildcats tonight at Richardson Stadium. ETSU improves to 12-4 overall and 7-3 in the Southern Conference while the loss drops Davidson to 6-11-2 overall and 3-5-2 in the SoCon.ETSU pulled out a tough conference win in a game that, at least statistically, Davidson dominated. The Wildcats held a 15-6 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. The 'Cats also held ETSU without a second half shot attempt until the final 45 seconds of the match. Davidson could create scoring chances seemingly at will, but, as has been the case for much of the season, just couldn't finish them.Davidson took a 1-0 lead 31 minutes into the contest when freshman Heidi Wilbrandt scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a header off sophomore Lauren Hungarland's corner kick. The assist gave Hungarland the first point of her collegiate career as well.The Buccaneers evened the score when freshman Lindsay Hoffman scored an unassisted goal just before halftime for her third of the season. The game would remain tied 1-1 until Fulcher's goal in the 89th minute.The Davidson defense was outstanding, holding the potent ETSU offense in check for the majority of the contest. Buccaneer goalie Heather Sanden was equal to the task however, stopping six Davidson shots to keep her team in the game and provide the stage for Fulcher's heroics.ETSU won a corner kick with almost 30 seconds left in the match. A scramble followed in the box after the corner, and Buccaneer freshman Blair DeGraw found Fulcher open on the left side. Fulcher struck the ball hard through the Davidson defense to win the match and end Davidson's upset bid.The Wildcats now find themselves in dire need of a conference victory in their final match of the season against UNC Greensboro on Nov. 2. The Senior Day game-time is set for 2 p.m.
