Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina University women's volleyball team has released the schedule for its home opener and third annual Catamount Clash tournament, which includes Georgia State, Villanova and SEC powerhouse Tennessee.
Villanova and Georgia State kick off the tournament at 6 pm on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Ramsey Center with the WCU-Tennessee match to follow. On Saturday (Sept. 7) Villanova and Tennessee square off to start the day at 11 am. Each squad faces the other three teams once during the two day span with the final match to feature WCU and Georgia State at 5 pm on Saturday.
The tournament will be Angell Kirkpatrick Benson's WCU head coaching debut at home after starting the season on the road at the Middle Tennessee State tournament. Benson returns to the Catamount sideline after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Western for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. She also played for WCU from 1989-1992. Prior to returning to Cullowhee, Benson was the head coach at Gardner-Webb for the past six seasons, posting a 166-69 record with the Bulldogs and leading them to two conference championships (1997 & 1999).
