Recher Earns Academic All-District Honor

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chattanooga junior distance runner Gina Recher earned
a spot on the inaugural Verizon Academic All-America All-District IV
University Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, the College
Sports Information Director's of America announced May 29.

Recher, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., was the 2001 Southern Conference
Individual Cross-Country Champion and led the Lady Mocs to the team title.
She placed third this past season in the 5,000-meter run in both the SoCon
Indoor and Outdoor Championships and boasts a 3.74 grade point average in
the School of Nursing.

"Gina has had an excellent career here but has been even more impressive in
the classroom," UTC head track coach Bill Gautier said. "This is truly a
deserving honor for her, and we are very proud of her accomplishments."

District IV for All-Academic honors includes student-athletes from Division
I universities in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and
Tennessee. To qualify, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, own
a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve for the team.

This year is the first time a women's track and field/cross country team
has been selected in the 50-year history of the Verizon Academic
All-America program. The 10 student-athletes on the first team will appear
on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Team, which
will be announced June 20.

The teams are selected through voting done by members of the College Sports
Information Director's of America.
