Lady Mocs Ranked 27th In Final Poll

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Lady Mocs' strong showing at the recent NCAA
Softball Regional impressed coaches across the nation and Chattanooga just
barely missed cracking the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association
Division I Top 25.

Chattanooga received 25 votes from the nation-wide panel of softball
coaches, which placed the Lady Mocs' second among other teams receiving
votes and No. 27 in the overall poll. It is the highest ranking ever
achieved by the Lady Mocs.

The Lady Mocs played six different teams that were ranked in the top 25
throughout the season. UTC picked up two wins against No. 12 Florida
Atlantic in the NCAA Regional (3-0 and 6-1) and in the regular season it
had one win against No. 13 Ohio State (2-1) and a win against No. 23 Baylor
(1-0). UTC lost once to No. 4 Florida State, twice to No. 9 Washington,
three times to No. 18 Georgia Tech.

Chattanooga finished 44-15 overall and captured its sixth consecutive
Southern Conference softball regular-season championship and third straight
SoCon Tournament title. UTC finished third in the NCAA Regional Tournament
at Florida State University, where the host Seminoles won the event an
advanced to the Women's College World Series.
