Furman Doubles Tandem Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS-- Furman's James Cameron and John Chesworth earned a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships today with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against UCLA's 29th ranked tandem of Tobias Clemens and Lassi Ketola. With the win, Cameron and Chesworth became the first All-American doubles team in Furman history.

"It feels incredible," said Cameron. "We played pretty well, and that's what we had to do. We just came out and played well. So we'll see what
happens."

Said Scarpa: "I'm super proud of what they've accomplished, but at the same time I knew they could do it. If they play the way they're supposed to, they can play with anybody in the country."

Cameron and Chesworth, who have been ranked as high as 14th in the country this year, are the third and fourth Furman NCAA All-American tennis
players, respectively, following Don Barton (1981) and Ned Caswell's (1986-87) singles selections.

The all-Southern Conference duo will next face Stanford's Scott Lipsky and David Martin, who are seeded No. 2 in the tournament. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. CT.
