Southern Conference Names Baseball Player/Pitcher of the Week

ASHEVILLE, NC -- The Southern Conference today named Josh Stackley of The Citadel as its Player of the Week and Culley Kline of Wofford as its Pitcher of the Week.

Stackley, a 5-9, 165-pound freshman left fielder from Ladson, SC helped lead the Bulldogs to a three-game sweep at VMI over the weekend and win the Southern Conference baseball regular season championship. Stackley opened the week by going three for five with a home run and three RBI at Charleston Southern on May 15. He then went seven for 10 in the three-game series at VMI with a pair of two-homer, four-RBI games. He finished the week hitting .667 (10 for 15) with 10 runs scored, 11 RBI and five home runs.

Kline, a 6-7, 205-pound junior lefthander from Lone Tree, IA, tossed a four-hit complete game win over Appalachian State on Friday, May 17. Kline went eight innings and scattered four hits while walking three and striking out five in the 10-0 win over the Mountaineers. Kline raised his record to 3-6 on the season.

The 2002 Southern Conference Baseball Championships begin on Wednesday, May 22 at Joseph Riley Park in Charleston, SC. Play beings at 10 am on May 22 when #3 seed College of Charleston faces #6 Furman. At 1 pm, second-seed Western Carolina will meet #7 Wofford. #4 Georgia Southern squares off with #5 UNC Greensboro at 4 pm while the final game of the night has top-seed The Citadel facing #8 East Tennessee State at 7:30 pm
