Chattanooga Softball Earns Honors

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Three Chattanooga softball players, Beth Alexander,
Jill Crawford and Melissa Ramirez, were named to the Second-Team of the
2002 National Fastpitch Coaching Association All-South Region Team, the
NFCA announced May 17.

Alexander earned the honor for the second straight season. The senior
pitcher from East Ridge, Tenn., was the 2002 Southern Conference Pitcher of
the Year after leading the league with a 1.10 earned run average. She also
led the conference in wins with 23 (23-6), tossed 10 shutouts on the year
and recorded 188 strikeouts in 184 innings.

Crawford, a senior from Lake Charles, La., and the Lady Mocs' short stop,
ranked second in the SoCon in hitting with a .367 batting average. She
leads the squad with 11 home runs and 48 RBI and was selected to the
All-SoCon First-Team.

Ramirez, a freshman third baseman from San Diego, Calif., led the SoCon
with a .400 batting average. She also led the league in hits (70), runs
(47) and on-base percentage (.470) and was a member of the Second-Team
All-SoCon Team.

All members of the All-South Region Team are now eligible for selection to
the 2002 NFCA All-America teams.

The Lady Mocs are competing this weekend in the NCAA Championships at the
Region 8 Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla.
