Women's Basketball 5/17/2002 5:28:00 AM Southern Conference Southern Conference Women's Basketball Signings WoffordMeredith BonnerMeredith Bonner, a 6-foot-3 center from Albuquerque, N.M. (Temple Baptist Academy), has signed with the Wofford College women's basketball team. Bonner was named to the 2001-02 All Metro Basketball Team, and was her team's MVP in both basketball and volleyball. She was a conference All-Tournament pick in 1999 and 2001, and was a NMAA 2A All-Star from 2000-02. She was also named the 2000-01 State Farm Insurance Albuquerque area Top Rebounder. She also competed on her high school's softball squad.Bonner averaged a double-double of 14.1 points and 16 rebounds per game as a senior. "We are quite pleased to have Meredith Bonner become a member of our Wofford Lady Terrier program," said Head Coach Ed Wyant. "I've been fortunate to watch Meredith progress first hand from us both living in Albuquerque. At this point, she has an immense amount of untapped talent. With dedication, she has the potential to develop into a fine player and a force in the Southern Conference."Bonner is the third newcomer signed for next year's Lady Terrier squad, and the second to sign since Wyant took the helm. She will join Irmo, S.C., native Nakia Mister and Atlanta native Becky Sasso as a part of Wofford's freshman class.Bonner hopes to study business and Spanish while at Wofford. She is the daughter of Joe and Lynn Bonner. She has one brother: Matthew, age 15.Becky SassoBecky Sasso, a 6'1" post player from Atlanta, Ga. (St. Pius High School) has signed to become a student-athlete on Wofford's women's basketball team next fall. Sasso, a four-year varsity player at St. Pius, was a first-team All-Dekalb County and honorable mention All-State performer. As a senior, she helped lead her team to a 27-4 record, the regional championship, and a fifth-place finish in the state. She was twice named Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Week during her senior year.Sasso averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game during her high school career. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the Serra-St. Pius Christmas Tournament, and earned honorable mention All-County honors as a sophomore. She was sidelined by a torn ACL during her junior year, but bounced back to full strength during her senior season."I was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere when I visited Wofford as well as the attitude of the girls on the team and the people I met on campus," Sasso said. "That was a major factor in my decision."Sasso will join early signee Jaclyn Hall as a part of Wofford's class of 2006.
