Wofford Adds Gamecock Transfer Guard

The Wofford College men's basketball program has announced that Greg Taylor, formerly at the University of South Carolina, will transfer to the Terriers.

A 6-foot-5 guard from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, S.C., Taylor will sit out the coming season as part of NCAA transfer rules and have two years of eligibility at Wofford.

Taylor was slowed for much of this past season by a severe right ankle sprain. He did play in 12 games with the Gamecocks during their run to the NIT championship game. Taylor also missed time his freshman year at USC when he was diagnosed with mononucleosis.

"We're thrilled," Wofford Head Coach Mike Young said. "We could not be happier to have him on board. He has a chance to be a very, very good player.

"Greg played for two very good coaches (Eddie Fogler, Dave Odom) at USC. I talked to a lot of people about Greg and everybody mentioned that he is very competitive and a guy who will add toughness to your team."

Taylor earned All-State and All-Region honors at Hillcrest and was a South Carolina finalist for Mr. Basketball. Also a McDonald's All-American nominee, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in leading the Rams to a 23-4 record and the state 4-A playoffs his senior year.

"I'm definitely excited about coming to Wofford," Taylor said. "I had always told my dad that he (Young) was my favorite coach out of everybody just because he was so personable and everything. When he got the head job, I was just like it'd be neat if I could play for him. I think it's going to be a good situation."
