Women's Basketball 5/13/2002 10:28:00 AM Southern Conference Wofford Adds Assistant Basketball Coach Debra Pope has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Wofford College.Pope comes to Wofford with a variety of teaching and coaching experience. Most recently, she served as the head basketball and volleyball coach and physical education teacher at Olympic High School in Charlotte, N.C. Previously, she served as a volunteer assistant coach at Winthrop.Pope will assist in all aspects of the Lady Terrier program, including on-court coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties."We are fortunate to have such a multi-talented person as Deb Pope join our women's basketball staff at Wofford," said Head Coach Ed Wyant. "Deb brings experience as a player, coach, and administrator to our program. I was especially impressed during the interview process with her dynamic personality and her genuine belief in hard work." Pope also had stints as an intern with the WNBA's Charlotte Sting and as a coach at Lynn University. She served as the head volleyball coach and assistant women's basketball coach at Lynn.Pope competed in basketball for the University of Southern Indiana-Evansville. She served as team captain for the Screaming Eagles during her junior and senior years, and led the NCAA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage in the 1994-95 season. She is also the school's ninth-leading scorer and the all-time 3-point leader. "I am thrilled with the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Wofford College, and am honored to be working alongside Ed Wyant," Pope said. "I feel the Wofford women's basketball program has a bright future and look forward to assisting Coach Wyant in taking the Lady Terrier program to the top of the Southern Conference."Pope graduated from Southern Indiana in 1997. She earned her master's degree in sport and athletic administration from Lynn University in June 2000.
