Cain Named UTC MVP

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chattanooga linebacker Josh Cain was honored as the
2001 Most Valuable Player at the team's annual awards dinner March 22.

Cain, who led the Southern Conference with 144 tackles and was a
Second-Team All-America selection, was voted the Scrappy Moore Award winner
as the team's most outstanding player. Cain also received the Marco
Sheppard Mr. Hustle Award, the award given to the upcoming senior who
displays the hustle, the leadership skills and the desire to be the best.

The Offensive MVP Award was presented to running back Charles McNeill. The
senior ran for 953 yards, 893 of those coming in the last nine games after
taking over for the injured Jason Ball. His total ranks seventh on the
school's single-season list and was the most for a UTC back since 1998.

Tackle Tyler Unzicker was elected the Defensive MVP. One-fourth of the
senior's tackles, or 19 hits, were made behind the line of scrimmage. He
also led the squad with 12 sacks and recorded 76 tackles.

David Fontenot won the Special Teams Award for outstanding special teams
play. Tight end James Beasley and defensive end Sheldon Green were given
the Iron Man Award, which goes to the player or players who have overcome
significant injuries to make positive contributions to the season.

Four permanent captains were elected by the team members, which represented
the leaders of the team. Captains for the 2001 season were safety Cody
Goodin, center Geep Wade, McNeill and Unzicker.
