Furman Announces Softball Signee

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman softball coach Bonnie Flynn announced
on April 22 the signing of Joni Lockridge of Conyers, Ga., to a National
Letter of Intent to play for the Lady Paladins.

A shortstop/second baseman for Heritage High School, Lockridge led her team
to the 2000 Georgia AAAA State Championship and to a runner-up finish in
1999. She was the recipient of the 1998 Coaches Award and in 1999 was
named Most Improved. In 2000 she earned all-area honors and was named
honorable mention all state.

This season, Lockridge has committed just one error and is hitting .410.
She will play for the Amateur Softball Association's Atlanta Vipers this
summer.

In addition to her time on the softball diamond, Lockridge played
basketball and was a member of the BETA Club, National Honor Society, Latin
Club, and Student Council. She was also the recipient of a 2001 Georgia
Merit Award and plans to major in pre-med at Furman.

"Joni Lockridge is going to be a great addition to our team," said Flynn.
"She is the type of player that will add the depth we need in the middle
infield. She can play second base or shortstop and is ready for the
challenges of college ball. She is a very good contact hitter with good
speed as well. In addition to that, I know she will fit in wonderfully
with our team and Furman is the perfect academic match for Joni's career
goals of attending medical school."
