Wofford's Jenny Nett Named To Academic All-America Team

Wofford's Jenny Nett has been selected to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Women's Basketball University Division First Team. This honor is the premier national recognition for a student-athlete. The All-District recognition is voted on by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America, and the All-America team is chosen by a selection committee.

This marks the first All-America honor for the senior, who has been named to the Academic All-District III team twice in her career. A guard from Louisville, Ky., Nett sports a 3.94 GPA in Business Economics and English, and was named Southern Conference Player of the Year for 2001-02. She finished the season ranked 14th nationally in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds. She is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa

national honor fraternity and a recipient of Wofford's Richardson Scholarship, a full scholarship given to just one student in each academic class.

Nett owns the Wofford records for career scoring (1,896 points, avg. 17.1 ppg), points in a season (613 this year), and points in a game (38, Dec. 30 vs. Western Carolina), and places on the top ten lists in all-time rebounding, assists, and steals. Last week, she led her team to its first ever appearance in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament and an overtime game with eventual champion Chattanooga.

Due to a tie in voting, Nett is one of six student-athletes on the first team. She is joined by Virginia Commonwealth's Kristine Austgulen, UNLV's Linda Frohlich, Iowa's Lindsey Meder, Kent State's Kate Miller, and Academic All-American of the Year Stacey Dales (Oklahoma).
