Chattanooga Spring Practice Underway

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Senior transfer quarterback Ryan McCann impressed
Chattanooga head football coach Donnie Kirkpatrick Thursday in the football
team's first scrimmage of the spring season.

McCann, a transfer from UCLA, completed 10-of-14 passes for 164 yards and
one touchdown. He ended the practice with five straight completions.

"Ryan McCann looked good all day long," Kirkpatrick said. "We didn't let
the quarterbacks escape and blew quick whistles. Ryan is a big kid. He
will make plays out of the pocket on the run in real game situations. His
arm was a little sore, and we were cautious with him. I feel good about
his ability to lead the team."

McCann connected with junior receiver Jason Jones on a 42-yard scoring
toss. Jones finished with four catches for 69 yards. Senior Joey Peters
had five receptions for 66 yards, while Todd Golden caught two for 51.

Junior Justin Barnes was 4-of-8 passing for 38 yards. Sophomore Kurtis
Koester completed 4-of-5 passes for 41 yards, and junior Chuck Spearman
threw for 81 yards on 4-of-6 passing.

Redshirt freshman running back Michael Dodd led the ground corps with 38
yards on three carries. He scored on a 15-yard run and had carries of 11
and 14 yards. Transfer Mario Hain picked up 36 yards on four rushes.

Defensively, senior linebacker Josh Cain led the first unit with several
big hits. Defensive ends Sheldon Green and Emmanuel DeWalt and tackle
Cortez Stokes each recorded a sack.

The Mocs will take a week off for Spring Break and return to practice March
18.
